Saturday, Moving day
Saturday dawned bright and early. All the girls were up and ready by 7, and everyone met at the table for breakfast at 7:15. Tim came at 8, we sang, and then headed over to his apartment to start moving his things.
When we leave FBF every morning, the door remains locked until we arrive back that night. The problem with this is that if you forget something and there is no one there to let you in, you just have to do without. Such is the case with Wes's keys. They were unfortunately left in the building when we left, so we lost the use of his truck to move stuff. Luckily, Tim borrowed a truck so the move still went smoothly.
The whole day, we loaded up truck and van with as much as we could squeeze in and drove it across the city, then unloaded it either down the stairs through the front door, or over a relatively short fence onto the patio and through the back door. We made a total of 3 trips, two before lunch and one after.
During the first trip, the girls were cleaning out the kitchen and fridge and as Mary was cleaning the freezer, she came across some little sealed plastic bags containing unknown items. Christina read the label to see if it was trash and it read, "frozen mice." These were food for Tim's poor little snake. Mary started freaking out and was totally disgusted that he kept frozen mice in the same area as his food. It was hilarious watching her reaction to Chirstina's words.
After that, we went to a Sikh temple for lunch. As we were wondering if we could get a tour of the building, a lady named Nancy befriended us and offered to show us around. She told us a little about herself; she used to teach Sunday school at a Baptist church, but since she discovered Sikhism, her mind has been opened and now she understands the world better. She took us through the temple, told us about Sikhism's main beliefs, and explained some of their rituals.
We thanked her and went outside to stand in line for a free lunch. The temple serves three meals a day, 24 hours. They always have food on hand for anyone who wants it. It was interesting to be on the receiving end because we have served meals to the homeless and have always been the ones behind the counter. This time, we were being served. It was a lot of food, all vegitarian, and it was really good. We ate sitting on long rugs on the floor of a large room. You put the food on the floor in front of you and eat it with a spoon or a piece of bread. No tables, no shoes, and limited use of utensils.
