The Metamorphosis
by Franz Kafka is quite possibly the most horrific thing I've ever read. Why does Gregor just accept the fact that he's turned into a giant insect? Hello! You're a bug! Wouldn't you care to know why?! The only thing he's worried about is getting to work on time. It is just creepy throughout and mildly depressing at the end. Where do people come up with this stuff?
